ReFoxology
Description
I provide individuals and parents with a practical coping strategy to support themselves or their child struggling with anxiety by teaching them a relaxing hand reflexology routine (virtually) they can then can use anytime and anywhere.
Self-support Hand Reflexology (Virtual)
Looking after your own mental health and wellbeing during this time is vital. Reflexology is a fantastic therapy to support mental health and wellbeing, this 40-minute virtual workshop offers you the perfect opportunity to learn a simple hand relaxation routine as a self-support tool that you can use to calm the body and mind. The 8-techniques are based on the principles of reflexology (the hands and feet are split in to reflexes which correspond to a part of the body, by stimulating the nerves within the reflex messages are sent to the body part to calm and relax it), and cover all the major stress organs. The routine is designed to be completed in a rhythmical and repetitive way allowing the body time to respond to each movement. Using the routine on a regular basis helps:
*Relieve tension *Relax the body and mind *Enhance focus and concentration *Improve sleep *Support general wellbeing
Functional Reflex Therapy (FRT)- Parents (Virtual)
The FRT framework provides you as a parent with the practical skills to deliver a relaxing hand reflexology routine on your child to reduce their high levels of anxiety. FRT was designed by Lorraine Senior, it was drawn from the original practices of reflexology to support the mental health and wellbeing of children with high levels of anxiety, stress, autism, communication issues or intellectual difficulties. The framework encourages you to use objects of reference as a'tool kit' to promote communication and preparation.
This workshop provides you as a parent or carer with the perfect opportunity to learn a structured, rhythmical and repetitive hand relaxation routine you can use anytime or anywhere on your child. You will learn 8 movements that are easy to learn and follow the colours of the rainbow as an easy way to remember the order, action and body parts it supports.
The intention of the routine is relaxation for both you as the giver and your child as the receiver. The movement are encouraged to be slow and calming which allows you both time to take big breaths, and to focus on the area of the body each movement corresponds to. Using this routine on a regular basis helps:
*Induce relaxation *Improve mood *Reduce anxiety *Support wellbeing *Encourage social interaction
The workshops are currently delivered virtually and on a 1:1 basis, you will need a willing volunteer to practice the techniques for around 30-minutes.
The Workshop Includes:
*An introductory email on FRT, reflexology and setting-up. *A 15-minute pre-workshop phone call. *A 1-hour Zoom video call to learn the practical rainbow relaxation hand routine and use of the 'tool kit'. (Willing volunteer needed). *Emailed resources after the session to support the techniques learnt. *A 15-minute follow-up call via Zoom. (Willing volunteer needed).
1:1 Treatments (Face-to-Face)
I deliver personalised face-to-face feet and/or hand reflexology treatment plans using mindful reflexology to support individuals with their anxiety as a way to calm their body and mind. The initial treatment includes the completion of a medical history form and investigatory treatment to identify any imbalances in the reflexes as we as discuss how the person is affected emotionally and physically by anxiety. I recommend 1-hour sessions weekly for 4 - 6-weeks, this differs depending on each person and will be discussed during the first treatment.
Testimonials
During the lock down I had a zoom session with Nicola to learn FRT to try and help with my daughter who is on the autism spectrum. WOW the session was great, Nicola has been amazing throughout the whole process and very supportive after the call and ongoing. I would without hesitation recommend Nicola as a person and what she teaches has had a huge impact on my whole family. My daughter has responded really well, and she really enjoys it - which is a huge bonus and actually asked to do it! We have seen progressive changes in her throughout the 10 days that we have been carrying out FRT. As well as changes in her sleep pattern, 7 days in to FRT and she actually slept through!Victoria R
