I am a person centred counsellor offering counselling over the phone, via secure online video and face to face when it becomes safe and secure to do so. I have been practicing as a person-centred counsellor for a number of years, underpinned by 15 years as a listening volunteer with Samaritans. I practice in a number of settings including 2 schools and a cancer charity and I grow as a person and as a counsellor with each new relationship. I believe strongly that every person deserves the chance to be listened to and understood in an accepting and accessible environment. I have witnessed the change in people when they have been offered empathy and acceptance in a non judgemental setting and the growth that occurs as a result. I know what it feels like to receive these and personally it was life changing for me, as I was able to accept myself more and allow my own self concept to grow and develop. I feel privileged to do the work I do and to be let into other peoples lives, earning their trust and working along side them. I understand how much it takes to ask someone for support especially when trust can be an issue. I am passionate about the work that I do and aim to be as real as possible with every client in response to the trust put in me. I want to offer every client a safe and supportive place where they can be as real as they can too so that you can explore and understand your difficult feelings. My role is to support you through this by offering a strong and caring relationship, where I commit to being an open, active and honest participant. We will work at your pace and I will be guided by you and your feelings.
Testimonials
G came to me for counselling when she began to struggle to cope with her mum’s diagnosis with the degenerative condition last year She was initially sceptical about how counselling could help her but said that her sessions with counsellor David James had helped her deal with her emotions in a positive way at a difficult time made even harder by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Lockdown made the situation a lot worse and added more stress to an already stressful situation but I was lucky enough to be accessing counselling with David throughout and this gave me focus and a positive outlet to be able to talk through my feelings and come up with strategies to enable me to cope.G Meekes
