After the Storm
Description
Online community, away from social media, bringing together parents who have experienced the sudden, traumatic loss of a teenage or young adult son or daughter to connect, to share experiences and to learn together how to live after profound loss.
After the Storm is for bereaved parents who may be some time after their loss, perhaps a year or more, or even much longer, who are still feeling lost, isolated and overwhelmed by how life is and by what lies ahead for them.
Losing a child who is just starting out in life often includes complicating factors that can be particularly difficult for parents. There may have been challenges in our relationships with our children or to do with their lifestyle choices or situations. Even without these complicating factors our whole lives and even our identities can be thrown into confusion and it can be very hard to find the way forward, especially when the people around us often don't really get how things are for us.
Loss of a child in itself, and particularly sudden loss, can overwhelm our personal resources and cause us to experience trauma symptoms and part of the work of After the Storm is to support you to understand how trauma works, to learn how to resolve this through your own practices or by accessing professional support.
We gather in a confidential online space to:
- connect with and support each other,
- access information and resources,
- explore different ways to grieve and to maintain the connection with our children,
- access healing practices for trauma and
- identify clear and practical steps to take in our everyday lives
in order that we can nourish ourselves and find the inner resources to carry this load and to recover a sense of authenticity and purpose in our lives without ever feeling as if we are leaving our precious children behind.
The community membership includes regular input on topics and video workshops. There are also regular short courses and a six-week in depth course for those who want to get the benefits of membership more quickly.
Founder, Davina Robertson, is a bereaved parent herself, as well as a qualified psychotherapist and group facilitator who knows intimately and personally the huge challenges that we face.
Testimonials
“Since finding Davina and After the Storm, my feelings of being cared for, understood and supported have increased dramatically. I have found kindness, empathy and, more importantly, hope that I may cope better with the future. I recommend all of the services offered here - the weekly emails, the free mini course, and the Christmas course. All have been such a huge help to me and I look forward to the other courses for next year. Thank you Davina.”Mandy Glass 2021
